Q. How close is Varsity Place to UNH campus?
A. All but one of our properties is within walking distance to campus.
Q. Does Varsity Place offer a lot of variety?
A. With 22 properties, we offer so much choice that it is likely you will find lots of options to your liking. All of our locations are close to restaurants, downtown, bars, and campus. Varsity Place is the largest provider of student apartments and offers the most choice and variety in Durham. We are happy to help you find what you need.
Q. Where is the Varsity Office?
A. The Varsity Place Information Center is located at the top of Main Street (across from the white church steeple) at 24 Park Court. Look for our blue and yellow sign out front.
Q. Are utilities included?
A. Apartments vary in what is, or is not, included. Check the master listing on this site, to see what is included for each apartment.
Q. Are there washers and dryers on the property?
A. Laundry is not included in the rent. There are laundry units in some buildings including: 42 Garrison, Park Court, 8 and 10 Main, 24 Madbury (Tudor), 10 Lee Rd(Demerit), and 14 Strafford.
Q. Are the apartments furnished?
A. None of the apartments include furniture.
Q. What if I need maintenance in my room?
A. During office hours you can come to the Information Center at 24 Park Court and fill out a work order request or call us at 603-868-5400, or email maintenance@myvarsityplace.com, and we will gladly assist you with your needs. If you have an emergency (a large water leak for example) call the after-hours on-call number at 603-817-0219.
Q. Is parking included?
A. Parking is not included but is allocated on a first come first serve basis. Varsity Place Properties offers a lot of parking options. If we cannot reserve you a spot next to your apartment we can likely get you one nearby. Check the listing of different parking options and prices.
Q. Can I sublet my apartment?
A. Yes, however if you choose to sublet your apartment, you continue to be financially responsible for the apartment and the party you are subletting to.
Q. How long is the lease?
A. The lease is 11.5 month lease with 12 monthly installments of rent starting from the beginning of June until late May.
Q. How do I pay my rent?
A. Rent is paid through an electronic debit system on a monthly basis.
Q. Can I have pets?
A. Varsity Place apartments at Demerit is the only property that can accommodate pets, with a pet deposit and a pet addendum.
Q. Can I have guests come to stay with me?
A. Yes, but if they have a car you must come into the office to receive a temporary parking pass for your guest. Check the Parking Pass Schedule of Fees for those costs.
Q. Does Varsity Place accept Financial Aid?
A. If you are on financial aid and using it for housing please see our management team directly about arranging payments.
Q. Is Varsity Place co-ed?
A. Yes, you can choose whomever you want for roommates.
Q. Will there be a curfew?
A. There is no curfew, but we do ask that residents be respectful of roommates and surrounding neighbors and refrain from roughhousing or being loud in the hallways and common areas.
Q. Is smoking allowed inside or on any of Varsity Place's properties?
A. No, smoking is not allowed anywhere on Varsity Place properties.
Q. What is the process to see an apartment if I am a prospective tenant?
A. Apartments are shown by appointment only. Call 603-868-5400, email apartments@myvarsityplace.com, or stop by the Information Center at 24 Park Court to make an appointment with our staff.
Q. When can I fill out a housing application?
A. After you have seen an apartment you are interested in holding for the next school year, you can fill out an application which includes a student application as well as a guarantor application, which is available for download on this site. There is an application fee of $50, which includes a credit check and a reference check.
Q. How do I reserve the apartment that I want?
A. In order to reserve your apartment, we need a completed application form , a $50 application fee, and a deposit equal to one month's rent from each roommate. The deposit will be held as your security deposit when you sign your lease.
Q. Where is the closest public transportation?
A. The Wildcat Transit has stops that are very close to each of our properties. At Demerit, which is furthest from campus, it is scheduled every half an hour. This gives students reliable access to all locations on campus. Otherwise, all of our properties are within easy walking distance to campus and town.
Q. What happens if I need parking, but the parking lot where I currently live is full?
A. If your lot is full, we will offer you a parking pass to the closest lot with available parking to your apartment.
Q. What happens if it snows, will my parking lot be plowed?
A. Snow removal is included in your rent and/or parking pass fee. Effective snow removal requires the cooperation of all residents to move their cars when your lot is being plowed. You will be provided with the parking rules and regulations when you apply for a parking pass.
Q. Is Varsity Place affiliated with the University?
A. No, Varsity Place properties are privately owned and not affiliated the University. However, we are proud to be an active member of the Durham community.
Q. What process do my parents need to take in order for me to reserve an apartment?
A. We ask that your parents fill out a Guarantor Application, which requires their signature. Also they will sign the Guarantor pages of the lease document.
Q. I like to live in a quieter atmosphere than a college campus; do you have any properties that are further off of campus?
A. We have several apartments that are located on 10 Lee Rd. (Demerit), which is approximately 1 mile away from downtown campus. These units are in a more laid back environment and offer a large style of apartments.
Q. Does Varsity Place have any apartments for just one person?
A. Strafford Singles or 9 Woodman would be a good choice.
Q. Are there any houses for rent through Varsity?
A. None
Q. Do you have apartments for six people?
A. We have suites that accommodate up to 8 persons.
Q. When should I start looking for an apartment for the next year?
A. We recommend looking for apartments the fall prior to the year you wish to live off-campus. Properties fill up fast, so in order to get the best choices, you need to start looking early.
